Digital News Report – Relatively warm rains drenched northern and southern California Tuesday, but expect conditions to change.
Look forward to more rain in Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Bay area Wednesday with clearing later in the evening. The National Weather Service is projecting a high of 56 and a low of 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Expect wind-gusts of 15 miles per hour (mph).
It should be mostly sunny Thursday and Friday. On Friday night the clouds start moving in again. Rain should return Christmas day in northern California and Christmas evening in the southern part of the state.
In southern California expect the rain to extend into Wednesday night. Night-time snow levels could reach 4,500 feet. Daytime levels could come down to 6,000 feet.
Caltrans is not reporting any highway closures in Santa Cruz County. Highway 9 and 17 are clear.
State route 108 is closed from 7.2 miles east of Strawberry to 5.3 miles west of U.S. route 395. Chains are required from Long Barn to Strawberry.
There are a lot of road closures due to flooding and slides in southern California. In Los Angeles County Highway 2 is closed east of the I-210 to 14 miles east of La Canada.
In San Bernardino County state route 38 is limited to 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires and cars with chains. Expect these conditions from Onyx Summit to Big Bear City.
