A common complaint with women over 40 is fatigue. Doctor Oz had Marcelle Pick, NP author of Are you Tired & Wired? on the show to share ways to fight off fatigue.

Pick explained that chronic stress is a big culprit for fatigue. She recommended eating edamame, cheese, and Ashwagandha tea. The cheese can be the single serving size that you can take with you as a snack. The Ashwagandha tea is not full of caffeine.

Hormone Helpers for Pre-Menopause Symptoms –

The next expert on the show was Gynecologist, Shaun Biggers, MD. She explained that the menstrual cycle stops around 50, but leading up to that the hormones are changing. To help out with the hormone fluctuation she recommended a prescription of Progesterone cream. She said that the prescription you get from the doctor is better for alleviating hormonal changes, much better than over-the-counter (OTC) products. Dr. Biggers did say that some OTC creams could help stimulate blood flow because of the ingredients menthol and l-arginine that they contain.

Next up, was Samantha Heller, who is a Registered Dietician and Clinical Nutrition Coordinator at CT Griffin Hospital. She explained that eating refined carbohydrates and junk food causes the blood sugar to spike and to drop. When the blood sugar drops, it makes you hungrier and you eat more.

Heller suggested eating cranberry beans. In ½ cup of dried cranberry beans, there is 9 grams of fiber and only 120 calories. She added that eating beans a few times a week you help you to have a better mood, and weight better management.

The next recommendation is to use the EZ Weight Plate. This product measures the portions you should eat for a meal. The plastic measuring plate is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Wrinkle Creams and Microderm Exfoliating Products –

The next expert was dermatologist, Elizabeth Tanzi, MD. She explained that wrinkles start to show up in the 40’s. You can do Botox treatments, but in between treatments, you can keep the wrinkles hidden by using Platinum Skin Care GABA Super Antioxidant Cream which sell for around $59. GABA has been shown to relax the fine muscles under the skin. She said that it works about 10 minutes after applying it.

Another product Dr. Tanzi recommended was a personal microderm system. As we age our skin takes longer to turn around. By exfoliating the skin, it can help remove the dead layers of skin. She explained that exfoliation could help stimulate collagen, which helps to prevent the progression of wrinkles. The skin could be pink for a few minutes after using the microderm tool. She said to follow up with a moisturizer after using the microderm system. These systems are available to purchase for home use.

Best Supplements for Women over 40

Dr. Oz suggested three supplements that women over 40 should consider taking. Here are the supplements and the reasons why women might want to take them.

Horse Chestnut Seed Extract – Use this supplement to help varicose veins explained Dr. Oz. He explained that the valves in the veins get loose and the small veins look like larger ones when blood pools in them. He suggested taking 10 drops of the Horse Chestnut Seed Extract into a glass of water. The extract might reduce the amount of leakage you get and might reduce the appearance of varicose veins.
