Watsonville to elect new mayor

By Jim Peterson on November 29, 2010

Digital News Report – The last meeting of the Watsonville city council was cancelled and very little was discussed the week before, but the next meeting will include the vote for a new mayor.

There were four newly elected councilmembers and the current mayor, Luis Alejo, was elected to the state Assembly.

William “Bill” Neighbors was elected to the 3rd district seat while Eduardo Montesino was elected to the fifth district. Daniel Dodge was elected to the fifth district and Nancy Bilicich was elected to the seventh district.

According to the county Elections Department, some of the tallies are not “official”, but they continue to work on them.

There was a lawsuit filed to prevent Alejo from voting for the next mayor because he will be leaving for the assembly, but a judge today ruled that he can indeed make that vote.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 11th at 6:30 PM. The council will be voting to determine the next mayor.
