Watsonville Fails to Pass Campaign Contribution Limits

By Jim Peterson on October 3, 2010

Digital News Report – The city council of Watsonville failed to pass a limit on campaign contributions at their last meeting.

The city council, Alan J. Smith, was asked to craft a campaign contribution ordinance similar to the Santa Cruz County ordinance, which has been in effect since 1989. At their last meeting city manager Carlos J. Palacios presented the council with a proposed ordinance.

After discussion of the proposal, the council voted no on the ordinance. Mayor Alejo, councilman Bersamin, and Petersen voted yes, Bilicich, Caput, and Martinez voted no. The motion failed to carry because of a lack of votes. Councilmember Rivas was absent.
