Self Defense Classes for Women of all ages starts July 5 in Santa Cruz

Women Self defense pose - DNRDigital News Report – The Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation are going to have a self-defense classes for women of all ages, including children and teens. These classes are scheduled to begin on July 5 and will be presented by the Commission for the Prevention of Violence Against Women (CPVAW).

These self-defense classes will teach women strategies to communicate, and use physical methods to help improve their personal safety. It will help the women to be able to defend themselves in different situations, such as at work, school, home, and on the street.

There are four different classes being offered based on the age groups: women 18-59, senior women 60 and over, girls 8-12, and teen girls 13-18. The classes vary from 1 ½ hours to 3 hours long once a week between 3 – 4 weeks depending on the class. Comfortable close is recommended.

The Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation is now taking registration for these classes. Each class costs money to sign up, but they say that nobody is turned away if they cannot afford it. Residents have discounted rates compared to Non-Residents. Women 18 and over costs: $15 resident and $45 for non-resident. Seniors Citizens 60 + costs: Free for residents and $15 for non-residents. Girls 8-12 years cost: $5 resident, $15 non-resident. Teen girls age 13-18 cost: $5 resident, $15 non-resident.
