Digital News Report – The Band Perry was awarded the Best New Artist of the Year Award last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM). They were also the Top New Duo/Group.
Right after they performed their new hit song, “If I Die Young”, they were given the award, beating-out Eric Church.
The fans voted for Eric Church as the Best New Solo Artist and The Band Perry as the Best New Vocal Group. And then the fans went head-to-head to choose one of them as the Best New Artist.
“Wow, we are a family band here”, the gracious Kimberly Perry told the audience as she accepted the award. She went on thank her parents and the fans of country music.
“We are so humbled by this and our songs belong to you,” she added.
The sister and two brothers that make up the band signed with Republic Nashville in August 2009 and then began releasing hits including “Hip to My Heart” (November 2009), “If I Die Young” (June 2010), and “You Lie” (January 2011).
In 2010 they came out with their first album, The Band Perry.
