Digital News Report – The 39th annual American Music Awards was not quite as shocking previous years, however, there still was plenty of entertaining and surprising moments on the show.
The highlight of the night was the last performance of the evening. The LMFAO music group performed a party anthem song. It started with Justin Bieber joining the group wearing neon leopard tight pants dancing with the group. Then LMFAO became the center of the performance and stripped down to shorts with happy faces placed on the front. Joining them was actor, David Hasselhoff who yanked off his pants to reveal his smiley face shorts.
Also pushing the threshold of different was Nicki Minaj wearing a silver outfit that made her look like a robot. Minaj won her first two American Music Awards, one for favorite rap/hip-hop artist and another for favorite hip-hop album trophy.
Justin Bieber returned from Europe and performed on last night’s award show. Will his matching pants and jacket start a new fashion trend? He was wearing a white and red leather outfit reflective almost of something Elvis Presley might have worn as he performed the “Under the Mistletoe” song from his new holiday album. When he arrived to the awards ceremony, he was wearing a black velvet tuxedo with his hair slicked back. In addition, at the end of the show he was wearing tacky leopard print pants.
Taylor Swift cleaned up at the awards ceremony. She is just shy of 22 years old and achieved so much. Last night she won for the fourth year in a row as favorite country female artist. She also won favorite country album, and for the second time she won artist of the year. She now has a 10 American Music Awards to put on her fireplace mantle.
Jennifer Lopez was wearing a skin colored tights to make her look barely clothed. Today, a debate is going on with who wore the nude color leotards the best — Britney Spears during her 2000 era look, or Jennifer Lopez. Lopez won an award for favorite Latin music artist.
Beyonce and Rihanna were not at the awards, but instead they had a pre-recorded thank you speech.
