As Law & Order: SVU returns for Season 28, familiar stars offer continuity, but cast departures and questions about the detective lineup remain.

The long-running television series Law & Order: SVU continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storytelling and procedural drama. With a new season set to premiere this fall fans eagerly anticipate the return of familiar faces like Captain Olivia Benson and her dedicated team of detectives. Mariska Hargitay who portrays the strong-willed Benson has expressed deep affection for her role and the group she works with.

The Season 27 cast included Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson and Ice-T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola according to NBC. Supporting roles were played by Kelli Giddish as Sgt. Amanda Rollins and Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr.

The show’s upcoming Season 28 will premiere on Thursday October 8 at 9/8c on NBC. Episodes will be available on Peacock the day after they air.

Despite the presence of returning stars some fans feel that the show still struggles with its detective lineup. The series has been a fixture on primetime television for years maintaining high procedural standards throughout its run.

However even with strong performances from veteran actors the show’s ongoing issues with detective roles remain a concern. Benson’s character has long been central to the show’s identity and her emotional connection to survivors is part of what makes the series so compelling. Fans appreciate how the show brings courtroom drama to life leaving viewers emotionally invested in each trial.

While many fans are excited about Season 28 they also wonder if the show’s core issues with its detective dynamics can be resolved. The team of detectives remains essential to the show’s appeal but some feel that recent changes or lack of development have weakened their impact. Hargitay’s continued dedication to her role and the team’s unity are clear yet fans remain skeptical about whether the show can fully recover from its detective-related challenges.

The upcoming season may offer a chance to address these concerns and reinvigorate the show’s core elements. Detectives Joe Velasco and Kate Silva will not return for Season 28 while Kevin Kane continues as Detective Terry Bruno and Corey Cott returns as Detective Jake Griffin.
