Sky has confirmed that it will be producing a second season of the crime drama Under Salt Marsh. The show, which has not yet been given a title for its second season, will see Rafe Spall reprise his role as Detective Eric Bull. The first season of the series launched in January and was praised by critics, becoming Sky’s biggest original drama debut since The Day of the Jackal. The first season starred Kelly Reilly as Jackie Ellis, a former detective who worked alongside Bull in the investigation of a student’s death. The story connected the new case to an older unsolved mystery involving Jackie’s missing niece.

Creator and executive producer Claire Oakley expressed excitement about continuing the story in a new location, according to advanced-television.com. She said she was thrilled to explore another unique part of the UK and uncover more buried secrets in the second season.

The new season will feature a six-part structure, continuing the atmospheric and mystery-driven tone of the first series, according to a report from Radio Times. Following the events of the first season, Eric Bull travels to a remote Scottish mining village where he becomes involved in a murder investigation. This new setting will bring him closer to the truth about his own past, deepening the character’s journey.

The show is being written by Claire Oakley alongside In-Sook Chappell, Jonathan Harbottle, and Scott Graham, Yahoo News reported. Zoranna Piggott will serve as the series producer for the second season.

Filming is set to begin in Scotland in 2027. The series will be available on Sky and the streaming service NOW in the UK, Ireland, and Italy.

NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will be responsible for international sales of the show. Sky’s Managing Director of Scripted Originals, Meghan Lyvers, said the first season deeply resonated with audiences. She praised the storytelling and character development, noting that Rafe Spall brought a lot of complexity and humanity to the role of Eric Bull. Lyvers added that it was exciting to see how audiences responded to the series’ strong sense of place and compelling narrative.

The production company behind the show is Little Door Productions, working in association with Sky Studios. Rafe Spall’s performance was widely praised by critics and fans alike during the first season. He brought depth and idiosyncrasies to the character that made Bull memorable and engaging.

The second season will continue to explore themes of mystery, family secrets, and personal history. Audiences who enjoyed the first season are expected to be drawn in again by the new setting and evolving storyline.

The show’s creators have emphasized their commitment to maintaining the high quality of storytelling and visual style that made the first season a hit. Under Salt Marsh is available to stream on Sky and NOW, with the second season expected to launch in the near future.
