Washington will start Marcus Mariota in London as Jayden Daniels continues recovering from a second dislocation of his left elbow.
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday due to an elbow injury. The team will start Marcus Mariota in Daniels’ place for the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow during Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.
This is the second time in 10 months he has dislocated his left elbow. He returned to practice this week wearing a protective brace and said he was not worried about re-injuring the joint according to a report from thebanner.com. Head coach Dan Quinn said Daniels had a good week of practice but will remain out for the game.
Quinn added that the team will assess Daniels’ condition after a full week of practice next week. Mariota started against the Seattle Seahawks and threw three touchdown passes in Washington’s win. Daniels has opted against surgery for now and can return with the help of a brace.
The brace he is wearing prevents him from fully extending the elbow and Daniels says it will not affect his throwing motion. He also noted that this brace is different from the one he used last year when he had a similar injury. Daniels has been preparing mentally to start and said he is ready if the team allows him to play.
The Commanders will host the New York Giants on October 11 in Week 5 and then have their bye in Week 7.
Running back Rachaad White has not practiced for three straight days due to a shoulder injury. White has been ruled out for Sunday’s game. The team signed veteran Austin Ekeler to help with its running game.
Ekeler had a good week of practice according to coach Quinn. Quinn said the team is looking for a full group medical evaluation before bringing Daniels back. He added that the practice part was a big step for Daniels and that he is more ready than expected.
The Commanders traveled to England for the game and have been practicing in Hertfordshire. The Colts are also dealing with injuries in their wide receiver room according to USA Today. Wide receiver Ashton Dulin has not played since Week 1 due to an ankle injury.
Darius Slayton could make his Colts debut Sunday after signing with the team recently and being inactive as a healthy scratch last week.
Terry McLaurin is questionable for Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury that kept him limited in practice. Nick Cross, a former Colts safety who joined the Commanders in free agency, will miss his second straight game due to illness.
