The New York Mets stunned the Miami Marlins in a wild 15-14 slugfest that completed their series sweep. The game saw the Mets lose an early eight-run lead before rallying to hold off the Marlins’ late push. Tobias Myers recorded the final two outs for his second save of the season, ending the series sweep for New York. The teams combined for 29 runs, 35 hits and 49 baserunners in a game that lasted 3 hours and 38 minutes. The victory completed a three-game sweep for the Mets at loanDepot park.

Marlins starter Janson Junk allowed six runs in the second inning, setting the stage for a back-and-forth contest, according to CBS Sports. Miami managed to stay close with a solo home run by Joe Mack in the seventh and RBI singles by Owen Caissie and Graham Pauley in the eighth. In the ninth, Griffin Conine’s RBI double, Otto Lopez’s RBI triple and Jakob Marsee’s RBI single pulled Miami within one run. Miami had tied the game at 8-8 in the sixth after falling behind 8-0. The Marlins never took the lead.

The Marlins finished with 20 hits, led by Marsee who had four hits and three RBI. Despite the loss, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough praised his team for continuing to fight after falling behind 8-0, according to MLB.com. Francisco Lindor hit a three-run homer in New York’s six-run seventh inning. Christopher Morel went 3-for-4 with three RBI and finished a triple short of the cycle after replacing Brett Baty, who left with left knee pain.

The Mets have now gone 21-12 since the trade deadline and have won six of their last seven games. Interim manager Andy Green said the team showed improvement and could be competitive for a playoff spot next season. New York improved to 68-78 with the win. Miami fell to 72-75 and was 6 1/2 games out of the final National League wild-card spot with 15 games remaining.

The Marlins got a boost before the game when closer Pete Fairbanks returned from a nerve-irritation injury. Fairbanks last pitched on August 24 and has recorded 18 saves this season. Miami reinstated him from the 15-day injured list on September 9, but he did not pitch in the series finale.

The Marlins’ lineup includes young talents like Otto Lopez, a 2026 All-Star shortstop, and Kyle Stowers, a 2025 All-Star outfielder who also plays first base. The game was played at a time when both teams were looking to improve their standings in the season’s final stretch (MLB.com).

This victory adds to the Mets’ growing momentum following a series of trades made at the deadline. The result has sparked debate among fans and analysts about whether this surge can continue into next season, wwltv.com reported.

Both teams are now focused on their upcoming matchups as the season nears its end. The Mets open a three-game Subway Series at the New York Yankees on Friday. The Marlins remain in Miami for a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Fox Sports.
