In 2014, Indiana State Senator Mike Delph was involved in a notable controversy over a tweet that revealed confidential information from a Republican caucus. Delph had announced the defeat of a proposed amendment to the Indiana State Constitution that would have banned civil unions. Senate leader David Long punished him for this tweet because it concerned confidential caucus information. The exact details of what occurred during that Republican caucus and between Delph and Long remain unknown to the public.

Delph, a Republican representing District 29 in the Indiana State Senate, had been serving since 2005 after finishing former Senator J. Murray Clark’s term, according to Wikinews. He was facing re-election in 2014 and had been considered for a potential run for the U.S. Senate. Known for his immigration legislation and support of traditional marriage, Delph was also recognized for his involvement in national political discussions.

His family background includes growing up in Carmel, Indiana, with his mother after a divorce from his father. He was born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, near Boston, but raised in Indiana by his mother. Delph graduated from Carmel High School and went on to earn four degrees from Indiana University. His academic background included a Bachelor of Arts in speech communications and minors in Spanish, biology, and an emphasis in chemistry. He also earned a Master’s in Public Affairs with an emphasis in international relations and public finance. Additionally, he completed a Master of Science in Environmental Science and a law degree from Indiana University School of Law.

Delph’s interest in politics came through his work as a page for Senator Dan Burton and family connections to the political world. He had not been heavily involved in student government before entering public service. His early career path included working for State Farm Insurance and later on Capitol Hill. He also worked with the House International Relations Committee under Congressman Ben Gillman.

Delph’s family includes his wife Beth and five daughters. His oldest daughter is a freshman at IUPUI and made the Dean’s List in her first semester.

In 2021, Professor L. Alan Winters discussed the economic consequences of Brexit and its impact on UK-EU trade relations, according to a report from Wikinews. Winters is a professor at the University of Sussex and founding director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory. He has worked with various international organizations including the World Bank, OECD, and the European Commission.

Winters stated that Brexit increased costs for UK-EU trade and required additional resources for compliance. He believed that a tighter relationship with Europe would have reduced economic disruption from Brexit. Winters noted that the pandemic and Brexit both contributed to increased government debt and economic challenges. He emphasized that it was difficult to distinguish between Brexit-related effects and those caused by the pandemic. Winters pointed out that sectors like processed food, fishing, and services were particularly affected by Brexit. He suggested that while the pandemic had temporary effects, Brexit would likely have lasting impacts on trade organization.

In 2008, Donald K. Allen ran as an independent presidential candidate in the United States, Wikinews reported. Allen registered with the Federal Election Commission in January 2007 and focused on three main policies: taking care of Americans first, turning the economy around, and restoring accountability. He criticized the government’s $700 billion bank bailout, saying it would lead to inflation and burden future generations. Allen advocated for letting the private sector handle economic rescue efforts rather than government intervention. He proposed replacing the income tax with a National Sales Tax under the Fair Tax Bill. On immigration, Allen opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants. He proposed completing a border fence with surveillance and personnel to reduce illegal immigration.

Regarding foreign policy, Allen believed that war should be declared solely by Congress and advocated for a noninterventionist stance. He supported a drawdown in Iraq within two years and criticized the UN’s effectiveness in global conflicts as a policy position.

Allen’s campaign emphasized returning to traditional American values and reducing government overreach.
