Matthew McConaughey has spoken openly about the pride he feels in supporting his son Levi as he begins his acting career. Levi made his first appearance on screen alongside his father in the film ‘The Lost Bus’ last year. He will soon be starring in the upcoming Apple TV drama ‘Way of the Warrior Kid,’ which is set to release in theaters this November 20.
During the production of that show, McConaughey took time off from his own work to spend every day with Levi, according to USA Today. He described this experience as a special opportunity for both a father and an actor to share knowledge. McConaughey said he and his wife Camila encouraged Levi to try different things while he is still young.
He reflected on his early instincts and noted how they were still valid even after years of experience. McConaughey explained that he only began to understand how to properly analyze a script and character after working with acting coach Penny Allen for two decades. He said his goal is to pass along what he has learned, but not overwhelm Levi with too much information.
He believes each actor must find their own path in the industry. Before taking on ‘Way of the Warrior Kid,’ McConaughey had not worked on a film in more than five years. He said he didn’t have a clear plan when he first read the script back in 2023.
Instead, he spent time writing and studying different categories of leadership in life. After gaining a better understanding of the subject, he felt ready to move forward with the project. He was drawn to the originality of the script and found it stood out from others he had read.
McConaughey said he wanted to step into the role of Amziah, the character in the story. He also mentioned knowing the people involved in the project, which helped him make his decision. Ultimately, he felt confident enough to take on the role after considering all these factors.
