Michael Douglas’ late father, Kirk Douglas, made sure his son’s wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, was provided for in his will before he passed away. TMZ obtained trust documents executed by Kirk Douglas and his widow Anne Douglas, who both died in recent years. These documents show how the couple’s large estate was divided among their children and grandchildren.
Kirk Douglas had four sons: Michael, Eric, Joel, and Peter Douglas, according to tmz.com. His grandchildren also received portions of the inheritance.
Joel Douglas inherited Kirk’s Oscar from 1996, a 3-D set of miniatures showing Kirk and Anne, and several paintings. Peter Douglas received a number of other paintings from the collection. Michael, Peter, and Joel were each allowed to take $100,000 worth of memorabilia from the estate. The house staff was also permitted to take items from Anne Douglas’s personal belongings.
Catherine Zeta-Jones was named as a recipient of a specific piece of art called ‘The Friendship Bench’ created by John Kennedy. Kirk Douglas’s grandson Cameron Douglas received the Medal of Freedom that Kirk had been awarded in 1981 by President Carter. Another grandson was given the Jefferson Award from 1983. Other grandchildren received various awards and honors that were part of the estate.
Kirk Douglas’s granddaughter was given a selection of jewelry from the collection. Currently, Joel Douglas is asking the court to replace the corporate trustee managing his trust with a new administrator. He wants this change to help speed up how the trust is handled and how distributions are made.
