Actress Hayden Panettiere made a lasting impression across film and television during her life, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances. She was born in Palisades, New York, on August 21, 1989, to actress Lesley R. Vogel and fire captain Alan Lee Panettiere. She was the first of two children in her family.

Panettiere began acting early in life, landing a commercial for Playskool toys in 1990, less than a year after her birth, according to tmz.com. She moved into narrative television by 1994 and secured her first main role in a series in 1996. She appeared in forty-five episodes of that show before transitioning into bigger roles.

In 1998, she voiced Princess Dot in Pixar’s ‘A Bug’s Life,’ introducing her to a wide audience of children. Her career gained national attention with her role in the 2000 film ‘Remember the Titans,’ where she played the daughter of a football player. She continued her Disney Channel presence in 2004 with ‘Tiger Cruise,’ a movie centered around a ship during the September 11 attacks. In 2005, while filming ‘Racing Stripes,’ she suffered a back injury after falling from a zebra. She later wrote in her memoir that the effects of that fall lingered for two decades.

Panettiere’s peak success came with her role as Claire Bennett in the TV series ‘Heroes,’ which aired from 2006 to 2010. She played a cheerleader with superpowers who became central to the show’s early plot, according to a report from Us Weekly. During her time on ‘Heroes,’ she dated both Stephen Colletti and Milo Ventimiglia. She began to struggle with substance abuse during this period, later revealing a publicist had given her pills to stay energetic on red carpets.

In 2009, she began dating Ukrainian boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. She returned to television in 2012 with a role on the hit show ‘Nashville,’ where she played a country music star named Juliette Barnes. The series ran for six seasons and earned her two Golden Globe nominations. She also performed several original songs for the show, including one that charted on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Klitschko proposed to her in 2013, and they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Kaya, in December 2014. She gave birth in Hawaii and says the birth nearly killed her. After giving birth, she developed postpartum depression and began drinking heavily. Klitschko helped her enter a treatment program for addiction. She gave custody of Kaya to Wladimir in 2018 amid her ongoing struggles with alcoholism. She later wrote about missing the mother she had hoped to be.

The couple ended their relationship around that time, and Klitschko returned to Europe with their daughter. She met Brian Hickerson shortly before splitting from Klitschko and began dating him in 2018. In the 2020s, Hickerson was arrested on charges related to domestic violence and assault during their relationship.

Hayden obtained court-ordered protection from Brian after these incidents. Panettiere’s career spanned multiple genres and platforms, from animated films to dramatic television roles. She was known for her work in the Scream franchise, particularly as Kirby Reed in ‘Scream 4’ and ‘Scream VI.’ Her performance in ‘Scream 4’ helped elevate her character to a fan favorite. In ‘Scream VI,’ she returned as Kirby, now an FBI agent investigating a new serial killer. She brought her knowledge of horror films and strong personality to the role, making Kirby memorable even as a supporting character.

Her portrayal of Claire in ‘Heroes’ remains one of her most recognized roles. She also starred in the teen comedy ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper,’ which featured her as a complex and soulful character. Her journey through film and television showcased both her range and resilience in the face of personal challenges.

She passed away suddenly at age 36 in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16, 2026. Her death shocked the entertainment world and prompted many retrospectives of her impressive career. She is remembered for her contributions to television and film, as well as her personal struggles and strength.
