Santa Cruz City Offices closed through January 2 with some exceptions

Digital News Report – Santa Cruz will close their offices December 17, 2011 through January 2, 2012 as a cost savings measure to help balance the city’s budget. The furlough will not include public safety and other essential services. To help the residents, city officials made announcements of closures and the reduced holiday hours.

The Christmas pine trees will be picked up the week of January 2 – 6, 2012 on the regularly scheduled recycling pick-up day. The Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities regular trash and recycling pickups will continue to operate during the furlough days, even on the holidays.

The Dimeo Land Resource Recovery Facility (landfill and recycling center) will close early at noon on December 24 and December 31. The other days the landfill will operate as regular hours, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm Mon-Sat.

Santa Cruz Public Libraries will be open during regular hours with a few of the days being closed. The closures are on December 25, 2011 and the following Monday, December 26, 2011. Also the branches will be closed on January 1-2, 2012. On December 24, and December 31, the branches will be closed with the exceptions of the following branches: Aptos, Branciforte, and Capitola: 11:00 am – 2 pm; Downtown branch: 10 am – 2 pm; and Felton 9 am – 12 pm. On January 3 the branches will reopen with expanded hours.
