Police Ask for Help in Santa Clara Car Accident

By Greg Cook on October 3, 2011

SANTA CLARA Calif. (DNR) – Last week there was a car accident at the intersection of Homestead Road and Pomeroy Avenue. Police are asking for the public’s help in apprehending a suspect in the hit-and-run death of Robert Schmidt.

Police investigators say Mr. Schmidt was crossing Homestead Road near Quince Avenue in a wheelchair when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. They say he was dragged approximately 300 feet.

Santa Clara Police Investigator Kenia Soto said there will likely be damage to the front end of the car and maybe even the windshield.

“Locating the vehicle, and the driver responsible for this collision, is an extremely high priority for Santa Clara Police Investigators,” Soto said.

They believe a late 1990’s dark colored mid-sized sedan was involved in the collision. Witnesses say the car was driven by a male with medium build and white shirt.

Anyone with information about this collision is should contact Soto at 408-615-4764.
