Aurora Borealis for 2011 - Spring brings spectacular Northern Lights display

Digital News Report

Digital News Report – There is one benefit to living up north, the Aurora Borealis lights offer up a spectacular show in the night sky. There is a extra good show of these northern lights going on right now, as the Spring is the best time to view the anomaly.

There is a Youtube video of a flight from the US to Paris that captures the Aurora Borealis during the flight. They use time lapse photos to zip you through the flight. You can watch the video below.

The Aurora Borealis is actually being researched by NASA scientists to further understand more about these light shows. They said in the video presentation (see below) that it is actually violent space weather which is causing energy to enter into our Earth’s atmosphere. This energy charges oxygen and nitrogen molecules in the air causing them to glow. The storms can disrupt power grids, satellites, air travel, and GPS signals.

So while the Aurora Borealis is beautiful to look at, you can be happy that our atmosphere is protecting Earth from the space storm that is going on.
