Digital News Report – She doesn’t look like a hit man, but she is as lethal as they come (see the trailer below). That may be part of the reason for Hanna’s success this weekend. The film did better than expected.

Hanna, played by Saoirse Ronan (The Way Back, 2010), is a 16-year old growing up in the woods of Finland. Throughout her childhood, her father teachers her assassination and survival skills and she excels.

Later in the film she learns the truth: She is not normal. Her DNA was altered to provide strength and flexibility. In essence she is superhuman.

After being captured by the CIA, she is assigned to kill her father. But her father had been training her to kill a CIA operative named Marissa Wiegler, played by Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 2008).

The movie is opening better than expected. On Friday it tied with “Arthur” for second place behind “Hop”. According to Box Office Mojo, they both grossed $4.15 million, behind “Hop” which grossed $5.478 million.
