Lawnmower Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Agreement Reached

By Victoria Brown on April 9, 2010

Digital News Report – Owners of lawnmowers across the United States and Puerto Rico may be due some cash back and some extended warranty for a lawnmower class action lawsuit that claims that several manufacturers were falsely advertising the horsepower on their equipment. The companies being accused of this deny any wrong doing but have settled through long negations.

If you own an eligible walk-behind lawnmower you could get up to $35 for an engine up to 30 horsepower which you purchased between January 1, 1994, and April 12, 2010. The riding lawnmowers could get you up to $75 back for each one that was up 30 horsepower and bought between January 1, 1994 and April 12, 2010. You can also receive an extended warranty. But you have to file your claim online at the Website for the Lawnmower Class Action Settlement. There is a time limit to submit your claim by August 31, 2010.

How to determine if your Lawnmower is included in the lawsuit:

Check your engine to see if it was manufactured by the following, these are included in the lawsuit:

  • Briggs & Stratton
  • Honda
  • Kawasaki
  • Kohler
  • Tecumseh
  • Toro

These manufacturers of the lawnmower unit are included in the lawsuit:

  • Deere
  • EHP
  • Honda
  • Husqvarna
  • MTD
  • Sears
  • Toro

Some of the Brand names manufactured by these companies include, but are not limited to:

Yard-Man, Cub Cadet, Honda, Bolens, Exmark, Deere, Sabre, Scotts, Toro, Yard Machines, Craftsman, Troy Bilt, Husqvarna, Poulan, Poulan PRO, Lawn-Boy, Weed Eater, White Outdoor, Snapper, Simplicity, Brute, Murray, and other brands.

According to the lawnmower lawsuit website they did not go to court to have a judge decide, instead both sides came to an agreement and that the defendants are not admitting to any wrong doing.

This LawnMowerClass.com website is fake. Tried visiting the site but it doesn’t exist. The clowns behind this lawsuit promotion are just trying to harvest personal info to sell. An inside source told me that she suspected the info could be used for identity theft.

I received a post card in the mail last week from them. I registered on the website, http://www.lawnmowerclass.com without any difficulty. They didn’t request any information they didn’t already have in order to mail me the post card other than my mower model number, manufacturer, engine manufacturer and engine model so I don’t believe they are trying to steal identities with such limited information requested.

I registered without too much difficulty. Careful what you click on- when you search all sorts of junk from all sorts of places may get returned along with the ONE for the website that you actually want.

yea but if I was to buy a motor for my drag car and paid 4,000 dollars and it claims to put out 400 hp and did not then what get a job naa that’s crap its misleading people and false info I just don’t see how they day 35 dollars or 75 dollars I bought the hydro 50 inch and think they should do a lot more put a motor on there that has the right hp or take this hunk back and give me a new one I guess if you bought a push mower for 99 dollars at walmart its no big deal but when you pay thousands for something and don’t get what you paid for then I believe its false advertisement and have seen lots of company’s pay a lot of money for doing such. for some one who knows nothing about power this would seem crazy but I know I just bought a Paxton novi super charger for my mustang for 4600 dollars and they say it claims it puts out 125 hp now if it only put out 50 I guess c Lloyd says that’s ok just let it be and get a job lol the money part I will agree is bull but some one is making a lot more then what we the buyers are making its easy put it on the dyno and let it speak for its self I know when I bought this mower I could tell from my old mower and it said it hade the same hp I thought it was just cause they didn’t make them like they used to not that they pulled a fast one and lied

We get $35 or $75 and the lawyers get a million or two and the company raises the price of the product to cover the cost of the settlement.

Who do you think really benefits from this settlement.

Wake up people!!! our greed for a few dollars is making lawyers rich and our products cost more.
You can’t sue a company, you are suing yourself, the company just raises their prices.

Amen Carl Pieczynski. Just a bunch of greedy Lawyers out to make money the “American” way. Sue! And we pay the bill. I think we need to file a class action lawsuit against some attorneys.

I’ll bet the guy saying “get a job” is either an attorney for the mower companies, or someone who “approves” of companies blatantly ripping consumers off. Companies care about their “profits” foremost, and it is always at the expense of the consumers who buy their products. Just look at “customer service” nowadays…it barely exists! They are more or less telling you “we have your money leave us alone”. Kind of like Wall Street. If I go to a restaurant and the meal & service are terrible, I’m probably not going back there. But when you HAVE to have a mower, you pick from what’s available and unfortunately for us there aren’t many “quality” engine builders out there. They don’t give a crap if the mower they sold you is a P.O.S..

  20. Ken says:
    April 21, 2010 at 11:09 am

Wait a minute…I’m feeling guilty for ripping off the mower companies…NOT!!! Just trying to get what I pay for one time!

  21. Ken says:

I had an old 12 HP Yard Man rider that would have run rings around this Troy-Bilt 17.5 HP<yea right!<rider.
Am I wrong for feeling ripped off & deceived? HOW exactly is someone wanting what they paid for being "greedy" Carl? Apparently YOU don't mow grass with a hunk of metal that "says" one thing and doesn't back it up because it CAN'T…IT WAS FRAUD CARL on the part of the companies making this junk…not the trusting millions who bought them.

I do agree that when you spend over $1000.00 for a mower, they are throwing you a bone by giving you "up to" $75.00. So what…I spent that on the first set of belts I had to put on mine after 1/2 season's use. That was just the first of many belts…this thing eats them like candy.
And we talk about China and others producing junk that we buy…what about U.S.?

I also agree that the attorneys are the ones who make the money off lawsuits…not the consumers they represent.
They get the steak dinners…we get the bone.
By the way Carl…my grass needs mowed because my mower doesn't work…can you bring yours over?
