New Community Plan For Aptos Village Approved By Santa Cruz Supervisors

By Jim Peterson on February 24, 2010

Digital News Report SANTA CRUZ – The county supervisors unanimously approved the plans for the Aptos Village Plan Tuesday. After nine years of planning the project may finally come to fruition.

The plan is a set of rezoning and land use changes that will replace the 1979 plan. Supervisor Ellen Pirie, whose district includes Aptos Village, has been working to change the plan since 2001.

Most of the people at the meeting wanted to see a change in the original plan which was updated in 1985. “If this gets approved and developed as planned, there will be no question. We will have a heart of Aptos and a village green for us all,” said Supervisor Pirie.

Tourism is an important income source for the community. The Aptos Village is the main business and commerce center on the northwest side of Hwy 1, between State Park Drive and Rio Del Mar Blvd.
