American Embassy in Yemen Closed Sunday

By Jim Peterson on January 3, 2010

Digital News Report – The U.S. Embassy in Sana’a Yemen will be closed Sunday due to terror threats, U.S. officials said. Last week the Embassy sent out messages to American citizens in the Yemen warning them of a “continuing threat” by terrorists in the Middle Eastern country.

“The U.S. Embassy in Sana’a is closed today, January 3, 2010, in response to ongoing threats by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) to attack American interests in Yemen,” officials said in a statement.

The officials in that country said that Americans need to remain vigilant and “practice enhanced security awareness.”
