Digital News Report – It is official, Apple has a major announcement a week from Wednesday. The company has invited reporters to an event in San Francisco to be held on January 27th.

There are rumors that Apple will be announcing a new tablet (e-Reader iSlate), which will hit the market in February. Of course, these are all rumors, and Apple has not released an official comment yet.

The Dow Jones company reports that the tablet has consumed Steve Jobs since he came back to work last June after taking six months off for medical reasons.

So far, their only official announcement of anything was an invitation to reporters to come to the San Francisco event. “Come see our latest creation,” the email announcement read.

Tablets were the big hit at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CED) in Las Vegas. Sony e-Readers and Amazon Kindles have been making inroads into the news, magazine and book markets.

Dell showed off their new slate at the 2010 CES. Google is also rumored to be working on a reader.
