Digital News Report – It looks like the Apple iSlate will incorporate a 10-inch display, if reports are correct. The company is expected to announce their new tablet on January 27th in San Francisco.

Various sources are saying that there is a shortage of 10-inch displays. Ars Technica is reporting that suppliers in Asia have no inventory to sell. Customers are asking for 10″ LCD or OLED panels and are being told none are available.

TG Daily is reporting that both LCD displays and OLED (organic light emitting diode) are in short supply. Unlike LCDs, OLEDs do not require a backlight to display.

“We were designing a product for a customer and we needed 10-inch screens, but we’ve been trying for months and can’t get one from any of the Asian suppliers,” a source told TG Daily. “We were told that Apple preordered them all. All 10 inch LCDs, and all 10 inch OLEDs too.”

Ars mentioned that Apple has done similar things in the past. When the company was preparing to release their iPones and iPods they cornering the market buying-up all of the NAND flash memory.
