Leno with Obama

Digital News Report – The only people who didn’t expect moving Jay Leno to primetime to fail were executives at NBC. Now everyone realizes that moving the late-night comedian to 10 pm was one of the biggest programming disasters in history.

NBC now admits that the affiliates put pressure on the network to move Leno out of that time slot. Some affiliates were going to replace Leno with something else.

Now NBC management is in talks with Leno, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon. The whole late-night lineup is in disarray as the network tries to hold on to all of their stars. Leno is expected to hold the 11:35 spot with a half hour show. Then O’Brien will take over at 12:05 with an hour show followed by Fallon with another half-hour or hour.

Nothing is written in stone, other than Leno leaving his primetime slot. “Unfortunately, the show was not providing a sufficient lead-in to our late news,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin.
