Digital News Report- Vandals struck UC Santa Cruz during the early morning hours of December 18th.  Up to 20 university vehicles had their windows broken or tires slashed, residence halls were sprayed with graffiti, and road spikes were laid out on roadways.  The University House also had windows broken and construction equipment at Porter College was damaged during the incident.

Very few students are on campus due to the winter break.  There have been no reported injuries associated with the incident and nobody has come forward with information on who the suspect may be at this time.  Monetary damage estimates have not yet been released.

UCSC spokesman Jim Burns said there were no immediate suspects and has asked for assistance with identifying anyone involved with the acts of vandalism. The graffiti messages reportedly expressed opposition to the prison system, law enforcement and campus growth.  There is no definite connection with the campus tree sitters, whose tree sit ended last week, at this time.

Detective Steve Garcia can be contacted directly by phoning the UCSC Police
Office at 831/459-2231. Reports may also be made anonymously by calling
831/459-3TIP (459-3847) or submitted via the Internet at
