Air India Optimizes App for Apple’s Foldable iPhone Duo

Air India A350
By Digital News Editorial Team on November 7, 2026

The airline introduces a redesigned booking and travel experience for Apple’s first foldable iPhone as the number of optimized apps surpasses 100,000 worldwide.

Air India has updated its mobile application to take advantage of Apple’s new foldable iPhone Duo, introducing redesigned screens for booking flights, managing trips and checking travel information. The airline announced the improvements on November 6, 2026, confirming that its application supported the new device from its launch.

The update introduces split-view and dual-pane layouts that make better use of the foldable phone’s larger display. Passengers can compare flight options, review reservations and access important travel services without repeatedly switching between screens.

Air India’s announcement comes as Apple reports that more than 100,000 applications have been optimized for the iPhone Duo. The growing selection of compatible software represents an important development for Apple’s first foldable smartphone, which went on sale October 23.

Air India Redesigns Its App for Foldable Screens

The updated Air India application adjusts its layout depending on whether the iPhone Duo is open or closed. It supports both portrait and landscape orientations on the device’s inner and outer displays.

The airline said the redesign focuses on making everyday travel tasks easier to complete. Rather than simply enlarging the existing smartphone interface, the application reorganizes information to use the additional screen space.

On the Home screen, destination cards and other content appear across the expanded display. The arrangement allows travelers to browse destinations and available services while seeing more information at once.

The Flight Booking section provides another example of the improvements. Passengers can review multiple flight options more easily, reducing the amount of scrolling needed when comparing routes and schedules.

According to Air India’s November 6 announcement, responsive layouts allow the application to adapt to four display configurations: the outer screen in portrait or landscape and the inner screen in portrait or landscape.

These changes are designed to provide a consistent experience as travelers move between the phone’s different viewing modes. The layout responds to available screen space rather than requiring passengers to use separate applications.

Easier Access to Trips and Boarding Passes

The My Trips section has also received significant changes. The larger display can show multiple journey cards together, allowing passengers to review upcoming and previous reservations in one place.

Travel details appear alongside frequently used actions, including viewing boarding passes, selecting seats and adding baggage. This arrangement reduces the need to navigate through several menus to find essential information.

Check-in and Flight Status also benefit from the redesigned interface. Passengers can access important details through layouts intended to make better use of the expanded screen.

The airline has extended the changes to its Loyalty Profile section. Travelers can view activities, vouchers, news and partner offers through a layout that displays more information simultaneously.

These improvements are particularly relevant for passengers managing complicated itineraries. Travelers with connecting flights or multiple reservations may benefit from seeing additional information without repeatedly opening and closing individual sections.

Air India has not released performance data showing how much time passengers save using the redesigned application. The improvements are based on the airline’s description of the interface rather than independently measured reductions in booking or check-in times.

Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Expands Its Capabilities

Apple introduced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, marking its entry into the foldable smartphone market. The device combines a conventional outer display with a larger inner screen that opens to provide additional room for applications.

The phone features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, powered by Apple’s A20 Pro processor. Both screens use matching aspect ratios to help applications transition between viewing modes.

Apple designed iOS 27 to support the folding hardware, including new multitasking capabilities. Users can open two applications side by side through Split View or work with multiple windows of supported applications.

The larger display also allows developers to create interfaces that resemble those found on tablets or desktop computers. Menus, documents and other information can occupy separate sections without requiring users to move constantly between views.

The iPhone Duo was released on October 23, following preorders that began October 16. In the United States, the device starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model.

Its premium price places it among Apple’s most expensive smartphones. However, early demand has reportedly exceeded available inventory, contributing to extended shipping delays in some markets.

Apple has acknowledged supply constraints but has not provided a firm date for when availability will return to normal.

More Than 100,000 Apps Now Support iPhone Duo

Apple announced another significant software milestone on November 6, saying more than 100,000 applications designed for the iPhone Duo were available through the App Store.

The company said thousands of additional applications were being added daily. The announcement followed early reviews that criticized the limited number of applications fully adapted to the foldable display.

According to TechCrunch, some applications that have not been optimized display unused black areas along the edge of the inner screen. Others rely on layouts originally designed for conventional smartphones, limiting the benefits of the larger display.

Apple’s latest announcement indicates that developers are increasingly adapting their software. However, the company has not published a detailed breakdown showing how many applications use advanced foldable features rather than basic screen resizing.

The expanding selection includes applications for productivity, entertainment, shopping, communication and travel. Air India’s update represents one example of how businesses are using the device’s additional screen space to reorganize customer services.

Apple has introduced a Made for iPhone Duo badge on App Store product pages. The label helps customers identify applications designed to take advantage of the foldable hardware.

Microsoft, Zoom and Other Apps Add Foldable Features

Several major software companies have introduced updates designed for the iPhone Duo. Microsoft Word and Outlook now use expanded layouts that resemble desktop interfaces, giving users additional room to work with documents and messages.

Zoom uses the larger inner screen to provide more space for video meetings. Shopping applications, including Etsy and LTK, can display additional products, reducing the need for constant scrolling.

Productivity applications such as Goodnotes and Extra also make use of the expanded viewing area. The Halide Mark III photography application adjusts its camera interface to accommodate the phone’s folding design.

Entertainment services including Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp were among the applications that supported the device during its early release period.

Apple has also identified additional applications receiving updates, including PDF Expert, Documents, iA Writer, Substack and several news services.

Not every announced update has reached users. TechCrunch reported that Spotify still displayed an unused black area on its review device, even though Apple had included the service among applications receiving improvements.

This difference between announced support and available updates means the experience can vary depending on the application version installed. Users may need to check the App Store for the latest compatible release.

Apple Works With Developers to Improve Compatibility

Apple has invested in developer support to encourage applications that take advantage of the new hardware. The company reported that more than 2,000 developers attended over 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities.

The sessions allowed developers to experiment with the foldable design and receive technical guidance. Apple also introduced software tools that help developers test how applications behave when the phone opens, closes or changes orientation.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, welcomed the response from software companies. She said developers had embraced the new design and were continuing to introduce more applications optimized for the device.

The company expects the selection to expand as additional updates become available. Future software improvements may also introduce new ways to work with the phone’s display and accessories.

For Air India, the immediate priority is delivering a consistent booking and travel experience across the iPhone Duo’s different screen configurations. Its redesigned application is already available, while Apple’s expanding software ecosystem offers additional options for travelers using the new device.

The number of compatible applications is growing, but individual features and update availability still vary. Air India’s November 6 release gives passengers a confirmed example of a travel application designed specifically for Apple’s foldable smartphone.
