Fox has approved a new comedy series titled Mammoth, created by Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker, who are known for their work on the Emmy-winning show Modern Family. The show is based on a British comedy series of the same name created by Welsh comedian and writer Mike Bubbins. Mammoth follows the story of Coach Tony Mammoth, a high school gym teacher who is buried in a ski avalanche in 1983. He remains frozen in time until he thaws out in the present day, only to find that the world has changed dramatically. Tony is convinced that the changes in society were unnecessary, and he carries with him his classic Burt Reynolds-style mustache and Trans-AM car from the 1980s.
The series is produced by FOX Entertainment Studios, with BBC Studios Los Angeles also involved as executive producers, according to BroadwayWorld. Lloyd and Zuker are serving as writers, showrunners, and executive producers for the project. Additional executive producers include Mark Linsey and Angie Stephenson from BBC Studios Los Angeles, as well as Mike Bubbins, according to a report from TheWrap.
The show is set to debut during the 2027-28 television season, Yahoo News reported. Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn said that the concept of a man who didn’t age while the world moved on is a funny idea. He added that the comedy developed by Lloyd and Zuker goes beyond just the premise, offering a rich and heartfelt show with memorable characters.
Christopher Lloyd said that Tony Mammoth believes he already mastered manhood and now faces a new reality as a major challenge. Danny Zuker added that Tony gets a second chance at life, but his old confidence doesn’t match the new world he finds himself in. The creators expressed their admiration for Tony’s bold personality, his curiosity about the unfamiliar world, and his underlying emotional depth.
Lloyd and Zuker previously worked together on the long-running sitcom Modern Family, which earned them multiple Emmy Awards. This marks Lloyd’s return to Fox after his earlier work on the network’s Back To You, which aired in 2007.
The show is distributed worldwide by FOX Entertainment Global and produced by FOX Entertainment Studios. FOX Entertainment is a major media company with a legacy spanning nearly 40 years and a global presence in television, streaming, and digital platforms. The company operates multiple business units including the FOX Television Network, which features popular shows like The Simpsons and Hell’s Kitchen. FOX Entertainment Studios is responsible for producing many hit series including Best Medicine and Animal Control, as well as animated shows like Hazbin Hotel.
The network is also investing in new storytelling formats and digital platforms to expand its reach and audience engagement.
