Disney has announced that Toy Story 5 will be available to stream on Disney+ in September. The animated movie will arrive on the streaming platform on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The film follows the familiar toys as they encounter a new challenge in the form of technology, according to CNET. Bonnie’s new tablet, named Lilypad, becomes a major part of the story and draws her attention away from traditional playtime, according to a report from tribune.com.pk.

This introduces a modern conflict that plays with themes of loneliness, fitting in, and imagination versus tech. The movie takes Bonnie’s story beyond her usual home setting into school and playdates with new characters.

The film stars original franchise voices including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Toy Story 5 has earned over $1 billion at the box office, wdwnt.com reported.

The movie premiered in cinemas on June 19, quickly becoming a commercial success. Before its streaming release, Toy Story 5 is also available for digital purchase.

Physical versions of the film will be released on September 22, including 4K UHD and Blu-ray formats. A video for Taylor Swift’s song I Knew It, I Knew You has also been made available on Disney+.

The soundtrack video is accessible through Disney+, Spotify, and Apple Music platforms. The film was directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris.

Stanton and Harris also wrote the screenplay, with Stanton contributing the story. The movie explores emotional themes that have been part of the franchise since its debut in 1995.

Disney and Pixar shared a short clip on social media showing characters like Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Lilypad, and Smarty Pants celebrating. Lilypad’s screen in the clip displays a message that reads, ‘Hi!’

The release date marks the return of beloved characters to the streaming service after their theatrical run. All previous Toy Story films are also available on Disney+.
