Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the United Kingdom after spending six years away from the country. Their return has drawn criticism from some residents who live near their new home in the Cotswolds. Several locals expressed their disapproval to the Daily Expresso after a reporter visited the area. One woman in a local coffee shop said the couple should be banned from the country. She added that Meghan Markle was an awful woman and that Harry had damaged his relationships beyond repair.
Royal commentator Caroline Malone also warned that an influx of visitors could cause problems, according to Yahoo News. The Sussexes brought their children Archie and Lilibet along with them during the move, according to a report from Yahoo News. They also brought two dogs, Pula and Mia, who traveled with them from California. Pula had been part of the family since their wedding in 2018 before moving to California in 2020. The dog’s name means “rain” in Setswana, a language spoken in southern Africa. Mia joined the family in 2022 after being rescued from a breeding facility through the Beagle Freedom Project. The Beagle Freedom Project helped secure her release from the facility.
Not all of their pets made the trip to the UK. The Sussexes’ chickens stayed behind at their home in Montecito, California. They had previously rescued hens from a factory farm and received one more from Ellen DeGeneres.
The couple had been planning their return to Britain. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they would not comment on the situation, the BBC reported. King Charles was informed of their decision earlier this month.
The couple’s move marks a significant shift after years of living abroad.
