CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be available for free to all existing owners starting September 29. The updated version includes visual improvements and gameplay enhancements across the entire game. Combat systems have been revised, with new finishers and adjustments to camera targeting. Movement and traversal for Geralt have also been made smoother, and mount handling has received updates.
The remaster will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, according to dotesports.com. Existing players will also get both of the game’s previous DLC expansions for free. The company is offering these expansions immediately after the announcement, not waiting for the September release.
A new expansion titled Songs of the Past is set to launch in 2027, bringing a new region and story elements, according to a report from Engadget. This new DLC will take Geralt to Letten, a peaceful region with hidden dangers beneath its surface. Players will encounter new monsters, returning characters, and a chain weapon for Geralt.
Songs of the Past is being developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, with team members from previous Witcher projects. The expansion will be a paid DLC for all platforms including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This will be the first full expansion for The Witcher 3 since Blood and Wine in 2016.
CD Projekt Red first announced the expansion in May, confirming Geralt will remain the main character in the story. The company has also shown that The Witcher 3 has sold more than 65 million copies to date. The next main entry in the franchise, The Witcher 4, is expected to release in 2028.
CD Projekt Red showcased both the remaster and the expansion during Gamescom in Cologne. Public presentations and REDstreams were held at the event from August 26 to 30.
The Witcher 3 Remastered is being co-developed with studio Yigsoft. Yigsoft previously worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
The remaster includes new Witcher Sign effects, improved monster behaviors, and an updated skill tree, beebom.com reported. Transmogrification allows players to customize Geralt’s appearance without losing equipment stats. An expanded photo mode and new finishers are also part of the update.
The Witcher 3 Remastered will provide a fresh way for newcomers to experience the game before the next expansion arrives. For longtime fans, this free upgrade offers a reason to return to Geralt’s world.
CD Projekt Red is aiming to bring both new and returning players back into the lore of The Witcher universe.
