Tom Cruise has voiced strong support for the promise made by Paramount CEO David Ellison to deliver 30 movies a year. He made the comment during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Cruise said he believes the plan will work and that it’s not just about Paramount alone.
He emphasized that the movie industry should be seen as a community rather than just an industry, according to Yahoo News. Cruise described the people in Hollywood as family, according to a report from TheWrap. He said he is confident that the 30 movies will come to fruition.
He added that the effort should involve everyone in the industry working together. Cruise suggested that the number of movies could grow beyond the initial 30. He expressed a desire for more opportunities for artists and creators in the field.
He talked about how learning and growth happen through experience. Cruise said that all artists, directors, writers and producers should have a chance to grow. He believes that creating an abundance of opportunities is key to the industry’s future.
David Ellison has promised 30 films a year for the next three years from the combined Paramount and Warner Bros. company. This promise was important in gaining support from theater chains like AMC and Regal. The merger is under legal review due to a lawsuit brought by California’s attorney general.
Other Hollywood figures, including Emmy winners Bradley Whitford and Hannah Einbinder, have voiced opposition to the deal. Einbinder said in a video that the merger should not be supported regardless of what Paramount promises. The legal challenges continue even as Cruise and others back the production goals.
