Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, has publicly called on fans to stop creating artificial intelligence videos featuring her late father. She expressed frustration over the spread of false content online, including a video that some believed was real but was actually AI-generated. In an Instagram story posted on September 21, Zelda said the video was clearly created using AI and did not resemble her father’s usual speech patterns.
The video appeared to show Robin Williams discussing conspiracy theories. Zelda said the voice sounded robotic and did not convincingly resemble her father, according to People.
She emphasized that she had been speaking out against the use of AI to recreate actors who can no longer consent, according to Yahoo News. Zelda noted that this issue has been a long-standing concern for her, as she has seen many people trying to train AI models with the likenesses of deceased celebrities.
Zelda first made similar comments publicly in 2023 during the SAG-AFTRA strike. At the time, she said she had watched people try for years to create or recreate actors who could no longer give consent. She also said she had heard AI versions of her father’s voice being used to make him say things he never said.
She also addressed people who create false videos using the likeness of someone who has died. In her new comments, Zelda said that Robin Williams should not be used as a digital puppet simply because he is gone.
She criticized the person behind the latest video for using her father to make a message appear more convincing. She also criticized people who accepted the video as genuine without questioning whether it was authentic. Variety reported that Zelda told people creating the videos to “have some shame.”
Zelda has made similar complaints before. In October 2025, she asked people to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father. She said at the time that people trying to troll her would simply be restricted or ignored.
She also described AI-generated recreations in 2025 as disgusting and over-processed, comparing them to “hotdogs” made from the lives and work of real people. Zelda criticized the way this material is created for likes and online attention.
Her latest comments also included criticism of the social media environment where AI-generated material spreads. She said she was frustrated by platforms filled with automated accounts and people who are fooled by synthetic content.
Robin Williams was known for his roles in films such as Aladdin, Good Will Hunting, and Mrs. Doubtfire. He died by suicide in 2014 at age 63.
Zelda has been vocal about her concerns over how AI is being used in entertainment and memorial contexts. She made it clear in 2023 that she was not neutral in the debate around artificial intelligence and its use in recreating performers who cannot give consent.
Her concerns have continued as AI-generated audio and video have become easier to create and distribute. SAG-AFTRA has also pushed for protections concerning the use of performers’ voices, likenesses and performances in AI systems.
Zelda’s latest message focused on the same issue she has raised for several years. She argued that the fact that her father has died does not give people permission to digitally recreate him saying things he never said.
