Rob Reiner was honored with an Emmy Award for his performance in the comedy series ‘The Bear,’ marking his third Emmy win but first in nearly 50 years. The late actor was recognized in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards held on Sunday.
This award came months after Reiner and his wife Michele were found dead in a double homicide in December, according to TheWrap. Their son Nick Reiner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, though he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Nick Reiner is set to appear in court next on Sept. 15.
Reiner appeared as Albert Schnurr, a businessman who helped Ebraheim (played by Edwin Lee Gibson) develop a new strategy for the restaurant’s beef sandwich window in Season 4 of ‘The Bear.’ His advice played a key role in inspiring Ebraheim to pitch the idea of franchising the Beef, which became a major plot point in the final season.
Although Reiner did not appear in Season 5, the series paid tribute to him in its finale earlier this summer. It is unknown whether he would have returned for Season 5, but the show’s finale featured a scene where Ebraheim calls Albert to share news about franchising the Beef.
Reiner’s work on ‘The Bear’ will be recognized again next year during the Primetime Emmy Awards, where he is expected to be honored in the In Memoriam segment. He also appeared in HBO’s ‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,’ where he played George Washington in a guest role. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC. The Emmy ceremony will include a tribute to Reiner during the In Memoriam segment.
