The San Francisco Giants placed Logan Webb on the 15-day injured list on Friday due to a blister on his right middle finger. This injury ends Webb’s season, which had already been declining in performance over recent weeks. Manager Tony Vitello had previously indicated that the team might limit Webb’s starts after he gave up 16 earned runs in 13 innings over his last three appearances.
With the Giants already eliminated from playoff contention and Webb now dealing with the blister, his season is over. Webb made 27 starts this season, his fewest since 2021. He finished the year with an 8-9 record, a 4.31 ERA and 134 strikeouts over 160 2/3 innings.
Webb had several strong stretches during the season. He earned All-Star honors for the third consecutive year after a strong June. However, his performance became less consistent later in the season.
The injury is Webb’s second trip to the injured list this season. He missed about three weeks in May because of right knee bursitis. That had been his first injured-list stint since 2021.
Duncan Davitt was recalled from Triple-A to take Webb’s place on the roster, according to RotoWire. MLB’s transaction log also confirms that Davitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.
Nate Furman, a rookie infielder, also went on the injured list with an oblique strain during the same period, according to a report from Yahoo Sports. MLB lists Furman’s injury as a right oblique strain and says his move to the 10-day injured list was retroactive to September 16.
Webb’s season was considered a disappointment both personally and for the team overall. Yahoo Sports reported that Webb and the Giants had both hinted after his previous start that shutting him down could be the right move.
The Giants entered Friday with a 64-89 record and had already been eliminated from postseason contention for the fifth consecutive season.
San Francisco opened a three-game series at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. Left-hander Cesar Perdomo was scheduled to start for the Giants against Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow. For Saturday, the Giants had not yet named a starter while the Dodgers planned to use Tarik Skubal. Both teams still listed Sunday’s starters as to be determined.
The Giants have had several injuries late in the season. Rafael Devers also recently had his season end because of a core muscle injury that requires surgery.
Webb now has the offseason to recover from the blister and prepare for 2027.
