A 14-year-old student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in northern Bangkok, killing six people and himself in a deadly rampage. The shooting occurred at the school located in Bang Kruai district, near the capital city of Bangkok. Police confirmed that the suspect had been living with his grandparents rather than with his parents.

At least seven people died in the incident, including five staff members and two grandparents, according to The Associated Press. Videos shared by news outlets showed students quickly seeking shelter under desks as gunshots rang out inside the building, according to a report from malaysiasun.com.

The suspect reportedly fired at least 26 bullets and was found with an additional 34 rounds of ammunition, dailytimes.com.pk reported. His weapon was a firearm that belonged to his grandfather, according to police reports.

Emergency workers described arriving during the shooting and treating students who had been injured in the chest, back, and arms. One teacher was found dead on an upper floor of the school, while another sustained injuries to her chest and arm.

The shooter was later discovered by medics after he shot himself in the head, collapsing at the scene. Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwphan, a spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, confirmed that the suspect remained in critical condition and was receiving emergency medical treatment.

Fifteen individuals were injured during the attack, with both students and teachers affected by the violence. This incident marks the second school shooting in Thailand this year after a teacher was killed and a student injured in Hat Yai in February.

Thailand has seen several recent violent events involving firearms, including mass killings at a daycare center in 2022 and other incidents in Bangkok. The school had around 3,100 students and 147 teachers enrolled during the 2025 academic year.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed sorrow over the tragedy, calling it a terrible event for the country. The attack is among the deadliest mass shootings in Thailand since a similar incident at a daycare center in 2022.

Students and staff were left shaken by the violence, with many describing confusion and fear as they fled the building. One student said he initially thought the sounds were firecrackers or someone banging an object. He added that there were many shots before everything went quiet.

The school’s location and the nature of the attack have raised concerns about safety in educational institutions across Thailand. Authorities are still investigating how the teenager obtained the firearm and what led to the shooting.

The incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence involving young people with access to weapons in Thailand. In recent years, Thailand has experienced multiple deadly events including a mass killing at a shopping mall and a shooting at a police station.

The country’s high rate of gun ownership combined with the frequency of such incidents has prompted calls for tighter firearm regulations. Debsirin Nonthaburi School remains closed following the shooting, as officials continue their investigation into the events.
