SpaceX’s First Earnings Call Shows Strong AI Growth Amid Bold Future Predictions

SpaceX held its first public earnings call where CEO Elon Musk made several bold predictions about the company’s future, including claims that Starlink could provide most of the world’s internet within a decade. Musk’s comments contrasted with more conservative statements made by other executives, who focused on the current business operations and realistic growth targets.

The company’s cloud computing services, which rent out compute power to artificial intelligence firms, have become a major source of revenue. SpaceX reported that its cloud services segment generated billions in revenue over a six-month period, and executives projected it could reach $100 billion in annualized revenue by the end of this year. Musk later expanded on that projection, saying the company could exceed $100 billion in revenue even without doing anything new. The company also shared its updated financial outlook, now expecting to hit a trillion dollars in total revenue by 2030 instead of 2031.

Despite the ambitious forecasts, investors were pleased with the results, especially the strong performance in AI-related revenue. The company reported earnings per share of 9 cents, better than the expected loss of 26 cents. Analysts noted that AI revenue had grown by 350%, showing that the company’s new business is already generating significant income. The AI segment has moved from being a cash drain to a profitable part of the business, with management using this momentum to push forward with acquisitions like Cursor.

However, some analysts warned that the company’s long-term goals still carry risks and that the current profit beat may not last if capital spending remains high. SpaceX also discussed its plans for the Starship rocket, with Musk claiming it could be ready to carry astronauts by the end of next year. The company is working on making Starship fully reusable, which requires improvements to its heat shield system. Recent test flights have shown promising results for the new heat shield, with the latest Starship prototype still intact after landing in the Indian Ocean.

Musk’s past predictions have often been met with skepticism, especially when they involve space exploration timelines. Now that SpaceX is a public company, there are more regulatory pressures on its executives to deliver on promises. However, the company’s legal structure in Texas may limit how much investors can hold it accountable if goals are missed.

The company’s stock has risen more than ten percent this week, though it remains below the price at which it raised $75 billion in its IPO. Analysts say that while SpaceX’s long-term mission is clear, investors need to focus on the company’s ability to deliver consistent results.

The company’s performance in AI and satellite internet has shown strong potential, but challenges remain in scaling operations and meeting ambitious goals. SpaceX’s progress in the lunar sector also continued, with a used Falcon 9 upper stage expected to impact the Moon near Einstein and Bell craters. The stage was launched in January under NASA’s CLPS program, and its trajectory was confirmed by both public data and NASA’s tracking systems. The impact is expected to create a crater about 60 feet wide and 12 feet deep, with debris thrown outward as ejecta. NASA will monitor the event using telescopes and orbital missions to capture images of the impact site before and after. Although the impact won’t be visible to the naked eye from Earth, it will still provide valuable data for lunar science and exploration planning. The Moon’s surface is constantly impacted by natural and artificial objects, and this event will help scientists better understand how such impacts affect the lunar environment.

NASA’s efforts to track and study the impact are part of broader training operations for future missions. The company has emphasized responsible disposal practices, including controlled impacts on the Moon, as a safe and predictable end-of-life option for space missions.

SpaceX’s first earnings call highlighted not only its financial progress but also the company’s growing role in global technology and space exploration. Executives have worked to ground Musk’s more fantastical ideas while still supporting the company’s long-term vision.

With strong AI revenue and continued growth in satellite internet, SpaceX is positioning itself as a major player in the future of space and technology.
