IBM has earned over 6,000 US Patents in 2011

notebook computer graphic - DNRDigital News Report – IBM ranked number one for 6,180 US patents the company earned in 2011. Following behind in patents filed in 2011, was Samsung with 4,894 inventions registered. After that, the patent filings for 2011 dropped down to 2,821 patents registered by Canon.

IBM attributes their voluminous patent filings to over 8,000 IBM employees in the US and around the world. They point out that over 26 percent of the patents came from employees outside the US.

Some of IBM’s patents earned in 2011 are:

U.S. Patent #8,019,992: Method for granting user privileges in electronic commerce security domains.
U.S. Patent #8,037,000: Systems and methods for automated interpretation of analytic procedures.
U.S. Patent #8,005,773: System and method for cortical simulation.
U.S. Patent #7,882,219: Deploying analytic functions.
