San Jose Pet Licensing Amnesty Program

By Jim Peterson on October 10, 2011

SAN JOSE Calif. (DNR) – The city of San Jose is offering a pet licensing amnesty program through October 31.

Residents inside the incorporated cities of San Jose, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Milpitas, and Saratoga are required to license their dogs and cats. Pet owners need to provide proof that their rabies vaccinations are up to date before they can get a license.

Animal Care and Services have a special tag for rabies, which is separate from the standard license tag.

The amnesty program gives pet owners the opportunity to license their dogs and cats with no citations, late fees or penalties.

The city is offering incentives too. Pet owners who purchase a new license or renew an existing license will be entered into a lottery for a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize. There will also be four $500 cash prizes donated by PAWS for SJACS.

Pet owners can renew their license online using their Visa, MasterCard or Discover. In several cities, including San Jose, Cupertino, Los Gatos and Saratoga, residents are allowed one free license per household.
