Virgin Galactic looking to hire Pilot-Astronauts for Private Spaceline

Digital News Report – Virgin Galactic is moving forward with the first ever privately run spaceline by advertising for Pilot-Astronauts job openings. It will be difficult for just anyone to apply for this position as a Pilot – Astronaut. The company is looking to hire three Pilot-Astronauts.

The requirements that is posted on Virgin Galatic’s website says that they are looking for both a full course graduate of a recognized test pilot school and have significant experience flying high-performance fast-jet type airplanes and multi-engine types. In addition to this they favor “prior spaceflight experience is an advantage”.

The employment opportunity is initially in Mojave, California but later will move to Spaceport America, New Mexico. The first Pilot-Astronaut that would be hired, the company anticipates employment to begin in June 2011.
