Online Victim Notification Coming Soon

Digital News Report – State lawmakers are pushing a bill that will allow the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to notify victims of crimes via email when an offender is released.

“It makes sense to update (the) notification procedures,” said California State Senator Tom Harman. “It brings victim notification out of the dark ages and makes it more compatible with 21st century lifestyles.”

Currently the department only notifies victims via snail mail. A federal grant has been set aside for a system upgrade. “SB 852 will update an antiquated section of California law and bring victim notification into the computer age,” Harman tells the Digital News Report.
