Digital News Report – Phil Mickelson won the Shell Houston Open today beating out Scott Verplank (see chart below). This pushed his overall world ranking to number 3.

Michelson hasn’t had a victory since last year’s Masters (his third). The 40-year old Michelson had 47 professional wins since turning pro in 1992 (39 PGA).

Today he finished 20 under par after shooting 65 in his final round. He finished three ahead of Verplank (68) and second-round leader Chris Kirk (67).

Tiger Woods ranking is now 7. This was the first time he outranked Woods since 1997.
