Digital News Report – Sales of Diet Coke (NASDAQ:COKE) have overtaken Pepsi (NYSE:PEP) for the first time in decades. Dr Pepper (NYSE:DPS) offers new products.

Pepsi only had a slight lead in 2009, but in 2010 Diet Coke is expected to overtake its chief competitor. Data released in March of 2010 by Beverage Digest indicated that Coke held a 17.0% market share while Pepsi and Diet Coke each had a 9.9% market share.

The Top Five soft drinks were:

1) Coke
2) Pepsi
3) Diet Coke
4) Mountain Dew
5) Dr Pepper

Diet Pepsi came in sixth place and Mt Dew is a Pepsi product. Doctor Pepper is a separate company.

Dr. Pepper has introduced a diet caffeine free version. Some people have asked where they can find these lesser known soft drink versions. This product can be found in 12-packs at Super Targets. This is a great alternative for people who do not want caffeine and those who can’t have it because of heart or other medical conditions.

The Beverage Digest is expected to update their 2010 list later today.
