Human Energy harnessed by Duracell will light the 2011 Numbers at New Year's Eve Ball Drop

Digital News Report

Digital News Report – Duracell was out collecting battery power from humans pedaling special Power Rover bikes to collect enough watts to power the 2011 numbers that light up after the ball drops in Times Square on New Years Eve. This is the third year the Duracell has been collecting power for the New Year’s Eve celebration with their mobile Smart Power Lab.

Duracell traveled around New York City to get people pedaling for the cause. They even got many celebrities to participate in the energy generation. Celebrities that joined in on Duracell’s cause included Star Jones, Kelly Rutherford, Richie Rich, and Cee Lo Green to name just a few. Everyday folks also pedaled for the energy supplied to the batteries.

The human powered Duracell battery for the 2011 numeral will last for the first 30 minutes of the New Year. Duracell said that the Mobile Smart Power Lab is going to be expanded to help cities across the nation that have been hit by a natural disaster. So if a hurricane happens, and there isn’t any power, they hope to provide at least some energy during the disaster.
