Samsung Nexus S mobile with Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Digital News Report – The Samsung Nexus S smartphone is going to get an exclusive launch with Best Buy retailer. The new mobile phone is going to be the first smartphone that has Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread system installed on it. The Nexus S mobile phone will be available to buy after December 16, 2010.

The Nexus S will be sold at Best Buy big box stores, 157 Best Buy Mobile specialty stores, and online at bestbuy.com. If you just want the phone without a contract it is selling for $529 which is the unlocked phone with no contract needed. The Nexus S will be available with a two-year service contract with T-Mobile mobile phone service and the Nexus S smart phone will cost $199 with the specific voice or data plans.

Features of the Nexus S Mobile Phone

  • 4 inch Contour Display with screen resolution of WVGA (800 x 480)
  • 1 GHz application processor
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile OS
  • Flash and HTML5 support
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • RAM 512MB
  • Near Field Communication (NFC) technology
  • Front and Rear cameras with 5.0 megapixels
  • Voice Commands for texting, calling, taking notes, and driving directions.
  • Google mobile services including Google’s Search, Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, Talk, and Voice products.
  • Gyroscope with three axis (and Accelerometer) built in for playing games and motion detection.
  • True multi-tasking
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Internet Callling
  • Anti-fingerprint display coating
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) (1500 mAH) battery with 6 hours of talk time, or 428 of standby time.
  • Near Field Communication technology is very similar to the RFID technology where you can share high frequency wireless data within a limited range. NFC limits the data sharing to around 4 inches, according to Wikipedia.org. RFID typically travels for farther distances. The NFC technology is one of the new features being implemented in Google’s Android 2.3 release. The NFC technology will very likely be using cell phones as a way to pay for your goods. You won’t need to take out a credit card instead you hold the phone close to the payment terminal and click a button to make a payment.
