Inmate Planned Escape

By Jim Peterson on December 1, 2010

Digital News Report – The escaped inmate who evaded police this week planned his escape, according to Sheriff Phil Wowak. The escape has prompted new procedures for transporting prisoners.

The 24-year old Maurice Lamont Ainsworth Jr escaped Monday after taking a gun from an officer guarding him. He was transported to Dominican Hospital for an MRI after complaining of shoulder pain.

Wowak didn’t specify what changes would be made. The six foot seven inch tall Ainsworth was taken to the hospital for an MRI. He was unshackled because metal is not allowed in the procedure room.

“Obviously there needs to be changes”, Wowak said.

Ainsworth is currently locked-up at a medical facility. He is expected to be transported back to jail later Wednesday.
