Major Riot at Folsom State Prison sends Seven Inmates to Hospitals

By Victoria Brown on August 29, 2010

Digital News Report – A major riot involving around 200 prison inmates happened this past Friday night at the Folsom State Prison. There was seven of the inmates that had to be treated at local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries said Lt. Anthony Gentile in a CNN report.

Five of the injured inmates were from gunshot wounds and the other two were from injuries from fighting each other. The gunshot wounds cam from the prison guards.

First the guards tried to use chemical agents to stop the rioting inmates, but that didn’t stop the fighting. Then the guards used 40 mm rubber bullets which still did not stop them. That is when the guards used a more lethal force with gunshots being fired and some of the prison inmates being injured. There was around 45 to 50 prison staff that were on hand to try to stop the riot that lasted around 30 minutes.
