Tax Freedom Day – A Sad “Celebration”

By Jim Peterson on April 21, 2010

Digital News Report – Yesterday marked Tax Freedom Day—the date when taxpayers have earned enough income to fund their yearly tax burden—again providing an unfortunate reminder of the price (literally) paid to run an inefficient government.

But there is little celebrate. How can California maintain the highest sales tax, 4th highest income tax, and highest corporate tax rate in the west, and yet still manage to outspend its generated revenue?

I have introduced two measures in the Legislature that offer real solutions to help overtaxed Californians: the first proposal, SB 952 will repeal some of the disruptive tax increases enacted in 2009 while the second, SB 1337, would repeal the forced 10% interest-free loan liberals wanted withheld from your paycheck.

As Tax Freedom Day has once again reminded us, we are desperate for bold reforms. Join with me in fighting against the culture of taxing and spending, and perhaps next year, we might actually have something to celebrate.
