National Tea Party Convention Kicks Off

Digital News Report – The National Tea Party Convention kicked off with speakers slamming the mainstream news media (MSM). The Opryland resort hotel in Nashville Tennessee has become the focal point for angry Americans looking to change the course of the nation.

Despite her support of a windfall profits tax when she was Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin will be the keynote speaker. The state of Alaska collected an estimated $6 billion from the new tax during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2008.

The convention will feature other speakers, workshops, seminars, information centers, and organizational tools for leaders to take back to their respective local Tea Party organizations. For many at the convention, the goal is not necessarily to start a new party, but take the Republican Party back.

Many Republicans were angry at the Wall Street bailouts and stimulus checks mailed out by Republican President George W. Bush. Other Republicans have jumped on the bandwagon since then and now oppose the Recovery Act implemented by President Barack Obama.

Here is a list of Republicans who voted for the bank bailouts (TARP or Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008):
