We are the world 2010 – List of Artists For Haiti Relief

See video below

Digital News Report – Similar to the 1985 “We Are The World” song for African famine, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are planning a 25th anniversary of the original recording of the song, but this time for relief in Haiti.

Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the first “We are the World” and it was produced by Quincy Jones. That effort made more than $63 million for the African famine.

Jones and Richie planned to record the song on January 28th 2010, but because of the earthquake in Haiti those plans were set back. Yesterday they recorded the new version. Smokey Robinson, who took part in the first version, said no one who appeared in the first “We are the World” would appear in the second.

Here is a list of some of the artists who will appear in the new version:

Pink, Lil Wayne, Eminem, AR Rahman, Kanye West, Jonas Brothers, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef Jean, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Barbra Streisand, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte’s Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Steve Saville, Jennifer Hudson, Britney Spears, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Will.i.am, Brandy, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Cameron Bell, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger,Justin Bieber, Nicole Richie, Jay-Z, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown Band, India.Arie, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Lady Gaga, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Sharbel N. Karam,Mya and Gladys Knight.

There will be 100 artists in total and others will be confirmed in a later press release. The song will be released on Friday, February 12, during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I agree with the last post. Why don’t you people pull something together for the folks here in America. The Haiti people are being ran by thugs, and no amount of money raised will ever get to the people that actually need it. I truly believe all money raised will go to line another deep pocket. You don’t really care about those people, and I believe that because you won’t do it for your own Nabors.

We have homeless, sick, hungry, dying people right here!

Well you know I feel that way sometimes too – that we should help our own, but the devastation in Haiti is not something we can ignore. Hundreds of thousands of people in Haiti are suffering, have very little food, water or medical supplies, and the rest of the world owes it to them to pitch in and help. This is an acute crisis – as human beings we HAVE to respond and do the right thing. I’m proud that America cares enough to be proactive.

  5. Ryan says:

Hey Dawnalla, how about you get off your ignorant high horse and realize that kids in Haiti have NOTHING. Their world was wrecked to pieces, they lost their families, they don’t have homes, they don’t have food, they don’t have water, they don’t have anything! Atleast people in America have shelters and families. And atleast America has the funds to correct it’s problems. Haiti does not. Think a little. You could
    benefit from some common sense.

The people that say ” the US has the funds” Look up the words national debt! Look up the debts of Katrina,Ike, 9/11 or did you forget about that, because we have thousands of military mwn and women protecting us 24/7. Wait until California has a big earthquake…. If we keep declining like this, we will be in serious trouble!!

To USA316 and DAWNALLA, If the USA would get out of the Middle East, and stop trying to force “DEMOCRACY” on the world we would not be in such a mess. What right does America have going into foreign countries of their chioce when they decide that they are not happy with their leaders, remember Iran-Contra? The weapons they are killing our Military folks with came from the USA. Remember when Russia invaded Afgan? We gave them the weapons. Remember when Iraq tried to invade Iran we gave Iraq weapons. Those same weapons are being used against us. Before I go, about the “National Debt” Those greedy Wall Street and Bonus giving corporatios should be to blame for alot of our “DEBT”. About Haiti look at the history they never stood a chance, ” we occupied them in 1915, but the root of Haiti’s troubles was “France”. If if was not for the country of Haiti we would not have “50” ststes in the great land we call “AMERICA”, remember the “LOUISANA PURCHASE”? Check your HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haiti is just another pinhole into the planet. Like all human beings, the planet is now showing signs of wear and tear. The last three generations along with technology and wars over the planets last resources, we are as a whole on a path of total destruction anyhow. There is your common sense.

Ok I agree with all to an extent. I dont wish bad on anybody and yes what happen in Haiti is awful and yes, they need help. However, will the help really reach the poorest of the poor? More than likely not. We do have to draw a line somewhere because we do have a lot going on in our own country, remember the lack of quick response to 9/11 and Katrina and mud slides etc etc. Although we have programs for food stamps and all, not all will “qualify” when they really do need it. I know several people who have lost their shelters and I help feed a child on my own street who cant afford to eat daily. This world has really gone down hill and we better catch it. Seems impossible to people just like me.

TO Anthony King – Seriously??? Um what did they actually teach you in school??? Get a map out and count the states .. yup there are 50, that doesn’t include DC or PR or Haiti, when exactly did the Louisiana Purchase happen? I think it is more than obvious it was to purchase … ohh the suspense .. Louisiana … that would be a state in the continental USA … Haiti … not a state in the country … AT ALL … go back to school … BTW the National debt … not just created by Wall Street .. I am not saying that they didn’t have ALOT to do with the recent additions, but all those conflicts you listed had something to do with it too… the national debt started by us helping other countries … you are contradicting yourself … Yes I don’t believe we should be overseas right now, but what do you think will happen if we just pull out … do you think we can say “Ok we are going to go now, have fun with yourself” … yeah not going to happen, they will come here and bomb buildings because we left … and others will bomb us because we were there … it’s a no win situation, but pulling out without establishing some sort of order before we leave is not the way (turn on the military channel sometime).
All and all … we should help, because we can help Haiti, however we are not perfect here yet … but we never will .. for those who dream in their own bed thinking that everyone in this country is doing the same … take a ride out to Cardboard City in many urban areas in the country … they are not in shelters, because most shelters are FULL .. that is an issue, you think people don’t go hungry … are you blind? Millions go hungry … how can you be so ignorant to think that because we have food stamps, welfare and shelters, that this takes care of it all … you are not looking … that isn’t enough … try to get into a shelter just once after night fall … you will get turned away, they are full, watch the movie “Pursuit of Happiness” that will bring some light to this …
There is no reason we can’t help those who need help in other countries, we have been doing so for years, it is what we were built on, however we also need to feed our country too … without losing our own shirts.

Blake, you need to go back to school post haste and get an education. Turn off the Will Smith movies. The Hatian slavery uprising was the main reason Napoleon made the offer of the Louisiana territory to the burgeoning US for such a small fee. He wanted out. Haitian bravery directly led to our nation’s expansion. If you are stupid, you really should stop posting online. I don’t disagree with your post, but you really should not talk about things you are obviously uneducated about.

America always helps other countries, it wouldn’t hurt us to just forget one, especially when our own country is suffering. And plus were not the only ones helping Haiti, they are getting plenty of help from other countries. And when America has terrible disasters, do we get help from other countries? Does China ever let some of our debt go, even after we always help them with their devestating tsunamis? NO!!! So America should help itself first, for once…..

Ok, everyone needs to take a breath and stand back. These are people who are in a world of hurt, that in it self should be all the matters. Here in the US we have programs in place to help our poor, we created these programs so that people here in the US don’t need to go to bed hungry, unfortunately we also have people that are uneducated and unaware that they exist. Haiti is in dire need of help, and we are not the only country helping. We need to all be thankful we are not there. I pray that they won’t suffer too much longer, that they get the help they need, hopefully we all learned from watching Katrina that to sit and watch people suffer is a harsh reality of what it is like when government does not act fast enough. as far as the new version of “We are the world” I would have like it better if they used more seasoned talent, but they were in a hurry to get this released so the money could be raised. Stop the hate. participate. and the world WILL be a better place for you and I.

Can’t we all find a way to unite and help each other both here in the USA and Haiti. The world is filled with humans…why r we here if its not to love thy neighbor and do unto others as you would have done to you.
I believe there is enough for both but for the USA its going to take a grassroots movement to let Washington know that the American people need more assistants and programs.
One voice can start a movement…just saying.

  37. Fromage says:
    February 12, 2010 at 10:58 pm

    To Blake:

Thank God there is someone with some common sense here. I was horrified at the stupidity of the people above until I read your post.

    To Molly:

The things Blake was talking about are independent of the Louisiana Purchase anyway, so why are you making such a big fuss about it? The point is, people above him said, and I will quote, “No one is dying out of hunger in the US” (see: famine’s post), and “And atleast America has the funds to correct it’s problems” (see: Ryan’s post), and “What right does America have going into foreign countries of their chioce…” (see: Anthony’s post). If you’re so keen on flaming people for being ignorant, THOSE should be your targets.

To the idiots in this thread:

If you think homelessness in America isn’t a problem, go here- http://www.nationalhomeless.org/factsheets/How_Many.html

    In case you’re too lazy;
“In addition, a study of homelessness in 50 cities found that in virtually every city, the city’s official estimated number of homeless people greatly exceeded the number of emergency shelter and transitional housing spaces.” That means they have no place to sleep.

If you think USA is loaded in cash and can fix everyone’s problems, go here-
    http://www.usdebtclock.org/

    In case you’re too lazy;
National debt as of 1:30am EST on February 13th, 2010 is $12,381,976,600,000. That’s $12.3 TRILLION, if you were wondering.

To those who think pulling out of unstable foreign countries is a great idea, go here-
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_war_in_Afghanistan

    In case you’re too lazy;
The entire reason Osama Bin Laden was pissed at the US was because the US left Afghanistan to fend for themselves after the political vendetta against Russia had been settled, after the entire country had been ravaged from warfare. What ELSE do we know Osama Bin Laden to be responsible for?

So before you all rant on about things you don’t have a clue about, try to educate yourselves first. DO note that all the links I provided are from .org domains, meaning they’re not full of crap.

Back on topic, finally. I think it’s great we’re supporting Haiti. I’m not sure why it received immediate and intense worldwide attention, but I suppose it doesn’t matter in light of all the damage that took place. *Sigh* I only wish that’s how the world felt when Hurricane Katrina hit, or when 9/11 happened, or even the train station attacks in UK, etc.

People who are upset about this I have a news flash for you… no one is forcing you to donate, listen to the song, or even care about Haiti which you obviously do not. If you want to help the U.S. good for you go spend all of your money we don’t care. But don’t comment or bitch about something good that other people are trying to do. This is not a negative thing in any way shape or form and if you are so concerned about the united states get your ass of the computer and organize your own charity instead of knocking another charity which you don’t even care about. Why did you people research this in the first place if you could care less? The U.S. needs help but not as much as Haiti. Grow up, learn some common sense, get some commpasion, donate, and move on. Or don’t it’s a free country but don’t knock someone who is. But once agin it’s a free country so your free to be as big as a jerk as you want.

No one is denying there is homelessness and poverty in the US. What is certain is that the US is far better equipped to help the poor than Haiti, though unfortunately it’s not saying much. Our problems nonetheless, we’re immesurably better off than Haiti. Secondly, the need to help one people doesn’t negate the need to help another, there are charities for each. And Fromage, you’re wrong – the world did come together to help after our own disasters. Check the facts. And another thing – foreign aid is less than 1% of government spending. So saying we can’t afford to help Haiti is malarkey.

Personally ive already donated what i can. Heres another newsflash. People all over the world are dying, everywhere, wheter of natural causes, disasters, or anything else. We are so fortunate to evn be living, so why spend prescious life fighting? please everyone i beg of you. Anyone bickering, realize what on the plate for a second. we need to come together as people, as members of the world. because WE ARE THE WORLD, we are all fellow humans, so why cant we all lend a helping hand to eachother. im a teenager, would you like to kno a scary fact? Ive never lived a day of my life where there hasnt been a war going on. sad right? world peace is far outah reach to ask for, but is it to much to ask for a helping hand every so often?

I completely agree with Marilyn…there are people in America struggling to survive…but it is nothing in comparison to the disaster in Haiti. How can we claim to be a nation and ally to other countries if we ignore Haiti in their time of need. I think it is amazing that so many people care about helping those effected in Haiti. Every bit helps. It isn’t going to “another deep pocket” it is going to those who need our help the most. One of the things that makes a good person is caring for others. Think of just how many countries helped America when Hurricane Katrina hit. Why did so many people help? Because they put aside their problems to help us. Now it is our turn and that is exactly what we are doing right now with the Haitian Relief Effort. Those too selfish to even support this should not be able to call themselves Americans.

Wow. People are dying, they have no food, no water, no plumbing, and family, friends, and loved ones are dead. We are in America and blessed to be able to go to sleep in a bed at night. For you who are worried about Americans and our well being, think about how you would feel if you were in the situation Haiti is in Now. You should be ashamed of yourself for being so selfish. It is our job and God will Bless all those who are trying to help for the good of Mankind. And if your so worried bout America having food for our own children to eat then donate to Feed the Chilren. Otherwise, please keep stupid, racial, prejudiced and inconsiderate remarks to yourself. Thank You

  46. Fromage says:
    February 13, 2010 at 6:49 pm

Vlad, I don’t know how astoundingly clear I can make this for you. You said “No one is denying there is homelessness and poverty in the US.” I just did a direct quote on you. Now allow me to make another. Username “Famine” wrote this: “No one is dying out of hunger in the US.”

So before you tell me what people are and aren’t arguing, read the damn comments.

Now, to clear up the next point. I never said the world didn’t come together for America when Katrina and 9/11 occurred. So since you can’t read, I will re-quote myself. “I only wish that’s how the world felt when Hurricane Katrina hit, or when 9/11 happened, or even the train station attacks in UK, etc.” There have been multi-national conferences, hundreds of countries have pitched in and helped out, hell- they’re even re-doing the song in the video above, JUST FOR HAITI. Did they do that for USA at 9/11 or Katrina? Did they do that for the UK train station bombings? How about the Darfur conflict in the Middle East? Nope. I said I wished they reacted the same way, not “I wish the world reacted at all.” It boils down to your reading skills, I guess.

So before you inflate your ignorant lungs with hot air to spit at me, try to read what I’m writing.

And finally, we can’t afford squat. If you had taken the time to read what I wrote (once again), you would see that we’re over 12 trillion USD in debt. If you have a negative balance at the bank and you continue writing checks, what happens? So saying we DO have money to help ANYONE is malarkey. Did I say we shouldn’t? No. Is it good that we are? Yes. Do we REALLY have the money? Absolutely not.

I agree we should support Haiti. I’ve donated, personally. I’m just trying to clear up some of the ignorance in this thread. It’s NOT as simple as everyone thinks it is, whether their view is “Help Haiti!” or “Help ourselves first!”. It doesn’t matter, I don’t care which is yours. You have a right to your own opinion. But don’t you think it’s better to understand what you’re talking about before you try to rip someone else’s argument to pieces and make an ass out of yourself?

I’m not sure people understand we might not have everything in america but in Haiti no only are there children with no homes, there is no community no government no leadership no hope no faith in america we always have our faith since we our country was started but here what are they to do, we have something we are not completely lost because we are fight, not only a war but fo the lives of innocent people in this country.

Really? Listen, disaster happens all around the world. Yeah the US may have a whole bunch of problems of our own, but many countries depend on us. (You know except for the whole screwing everyone over with the whole financial crisis thing) Yeah, we could have gotten a bit more help when Katrina hit, or 9/11, but most countries did send help, what they could anyway. Not all people in the US have homes and not all children are eating, but really they do have ways to help them and are all of the people so against helping Haiti sending help to the kids here? I would bet less than a quarter of you actually do. Its not that we don’t care, because we do..I know that I am not the only one that changes the channel when the commercial to save a child comes on because it makes me feel awful, or when that stinking Sarah McLaughlin commercial with the dogs comes on. (I cry every time) I don’t know about you but I know that fighting with each other isn’t helping anyone. We may be our own country but we are a part of something so much bigger and yeah that sounds pretty corny but its true. PEOPLE need our help everywhere. So why not give Haiti some attention right now?
